Candidate Pals Attends "Technology Expo," Eats DoughnutsOctober 1, 1997 -- Although Marlin Pals has not officially announced his candidacy for Congress, there was no mistaking his intentions at Southeast Community College's "Technology Expo": To stock up on free doughnuts and mouse pads. "I am the candidate of the future," Pals declared. "And sometime in the future, I intend to buy a computer. When I do, these mouse pads will come in handy. In the meantime, the doughnuts are excellent." The Technology Expo, a showcase for Nebraska high-tech companies, was reportedly catered by the Molan Bakery & Delicatessen, and featured a wide variety of baked goods. "When I heard they would have free doughnuts, I expected plain or perhaps even glazed," said Pals. "Imagine my surprise when I saw this spread: Bear claws, danishes, bismarks, long-johns -- you name it. They've got it all." Pals ate his fill, stuffed his free Aliant tote-bag with as many pastries as it would hold, and pedaled home. He intends to make "many more" campaign stops between now and the 1998 election, but would be "surprised" if any served better baked goods than the Technology Expo. |
